085. Loving-Kindness: A Simple & Powerful Practice

 November 5, 2020

Not good at meditation? Is your brain too busy to settle? Does the thought of focusing on your breath make you want to roll your eyes?

If so, loving kindness meditations (also commonly known as LKM or metta) may be perfect for you. These meditations are the act of sending kindness, warmth, and goodwill toward others.

I'm a big fan of LKM. I do it when I'm waiting in line, stuck on hold, bored at a social event, whenever the mood strikes. The concept is simple, but the benefits are profound. Studies on LKM have documented increased positive emotions, more pro-social behavior, decreased physical pain, and greater compassion ... toward others and yourself.

Loving kindness is a great way get started with meditation without having to sit still or be calm. It's simple and fun--and surprisingly powerful. Give it a try.
