Humor can bring us together. It's a great way to get people to listen, learn, and engage with one another.
Few people know that better than Laura Leydon, a special education resource teacher for Fairfax County Public Schools in Northern Virginia. Laura considers humor one of the main tools she uses to help struggling high school students master their coursework.
But even more, she uses humor to help them navigate real life. Because let's face it, there's a lot of drama in high school--and a lot of drama in adult life too.
Humor gives us a little distance, a space to observe behavior and reflect on what’s happening. And it just makes things more fun. (Laura's dog, Brinkley, clearly agrees. That's him rolling around in the photo above.)
How do you use humor to engage with people at work? What role does humor play in your home life?
P.S. Don't forget to listen to episode 2 about cooperation and episode 3 about giving feedback too! Many more UNLEASHED episodes will be released in the weeks to come!
