Is it too late to text that client back, or does waiting make it worse?

Should I post about this in my professional group, or will it make me look like I don't know what I'm doing?

Do I charge this client the late-cancellation fee, or let it slide since they've had a rough month?

Do I take this referral even though my calendar's already full, or turn away a family who needs help?

If you're like many pet professionals, questions like these can loop for far longer than the decision itself deserves. The choice might be small. The anxiety that shows up around it may not feel small at all.

Here's something that might shift how you see it: struggling with small decisions doesn't necessarily mean something is wrong with your judgment. It may be a sign that a lot is riding on the decision in your mind — not just the choice itself, but the client's feelings, the animal's wellbeing, what it says about you, and what happens if you're wrong.

In this learning lab, we'll explore

  • Why "small" decisions can carry an outsized emotional charge — and what that charge might be trying to tell you
  • The difference between thinking something through and getting stuck in it
  • What it looks and feels like when a decision settles, even before you've acted on it
  • A few ways to work with your decision-making patterns rather than against them

This isn't about a formula for faster decisions or being told to "just trust your gut." It's about understanding what's happening underneath the hesitation — and discovering that you may already have more clarity available to you than the anxiety would suggest.

How we'll spend the hour

Learning labs are all about conversation, connection, and self-discovery.

We'll start with some brief teaching on why everyday decisions can feel so weighty and where that weight tends to come from. Then we'll move into discussion and a guided experience to help you recognize your own patterns — not as problems to fix, but as information worth understanding.

We'll close by exploring what becomes possible when a decision gets to be just a decision.

About Colleen Pelar, PCC

I'm Colleen Pelar, a professional certified coach who spent nearly 30 years as a dog trainer and certified behavior consultant before becoming a coach for pet professionals.

I understand what it's like to turn even ordinary choices into all-consuming ones, especially when you care this much about getting them right. I've spent years helping pet professionals recognize what's really happening when a simple decision starts to feel high-stakes — not by pushing toward faster choices, but by helping them understand what's driving the hesitation in the first place.

My approach is grounded in positive psychology, nervous system awareness, and a deep respect for why we develop the patterns we do. I don't offer scripts or strategies to think your way out of second-guessing. Instead, I help you understand what's underneath — so you can meet your own decisions with a little more ease and a little less dread
